Download the file to your computer (see the attachments below) and extract it. (e.g. with WinRAR or WinZip)

There are two files in excel format. Both are calculators - for dry and rain conditions. If you don't have an excel you can upload the file to Google docs and use it here. With Google docs you don't have to download or install any program.

Take a look at weather forecast so you know which one you have to open. If there's rain in quali and dry in race, or vice versa, no problem. Situation explained at the end.

When you have opened the file in excel or google docs, just fill in the values to the boxes (remember you have to press Enter to confirm the change) :

-Time in out/of pits: You get this from Track details page. (in seconds)
-Number of laps: You get this from Track details page.
-Lap time difference: How much slower lap time is compared to laptime using extrasoft tires. (does not appear on rain version)
-Lap distance: You get this from Track details page. (kilometers)
-Pit times: You can approximate this. (How long one pitstop takes in seconds)
-Fuel amount: You can approximate this. (in litres)

When you've filled the boxes take a look on the right side.

Numbers tell how much you'll get time delay caused by tires, fuel and pitsops. Strategy with lower time delay is the optimal. If you're feeling that you might get blocked, use less stops. (for example in situation where overtaking is hard). Also notice that the calculator assumes that your stints' lengths are equal. If your stints aren't equal the time delay is slightly bigger. If there's rain in quali and dry in race, or vice versa, no problem. You can use rain calculator to calculate quali's delay and dry calulator for race, or vice versa.

how to use this calculator and what exactly is the advantage of using it....???

Pitting often means driving faster. Main reasons are of course:
- less fuel which makes the car lighter
- shorter stints which give you possibility of using softer (faster) tyres

But pitting often means also wasting time on the pitlane. So you have to choose either wasting time in the pit or wasting time on the track (by slower driving). Or some combination of those two things.

The calculator tries to estimate which choice is the best for a given race. For this, it needs data:
- how much time is wasted by pitting (your pit time which you can estimate from past races and track's in/out time, found in track info)
- how much fuel do you expect to use during the whole race (so that it can calculate how will your car's average weight change depending on number of pits*)
- how will tyres affect your speed depending on number of pits (this changes depending on track and weather, you can check this during practice laps, if for example extra soft tyres are 1,2 seconds faster than hards and you need hards for a 1-stopper, mediums for 2-stopper, extra softs for 3-stopper, then you choose 1,2 for 1 stop, 0,8 for 2 stops and 0 for more).

Then the tool adds up everything and calculates how much time you waste due to each strategy - both during the race and qualifiers. It assumes you won't get blocked.
